Modernized enterprise IT by bridging mainframes and PCs.
Intercomputer Communications Corp (ICC), co-founded by Kevin O’Connor, Bill Miller, Larry Duckworth and Mahendra Vora in the late 1980s, was a pioneering software company that helped accelerate the shift from legacy mainframe terminals to PC-based computing. As enterprises transitioned away from expensive “green screen” hardware, ICC developed the first terminal emulation software that allowed standard PCs to connect seamlessly to Unisys, IBM, and DEC mainframes. Its products replicated the behavior of traditional terminals—such as 3270, ET110, VT100, and UTS - enabling businesses to modernize their infrastructure without disrupting core systems.
ICC’s solutions were adopted by major banks, government agencies, and large enterprises seeking to modernize their IT infrastructure. By bridging legacy systems with emerging desktop technologies, ICC became a foundational enabler of enterprise digital transformation. The company achieved strong commercial success and was ultimately acquired by Attachmate, a global leader in host connectivity. This marked one of the first, if not the first, successful tech startup in Cincinnati—helping spark the region’s innovation economy decades before it became nationally recognized.
